Course Description

This course equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster™ Coastal and Yachtmaster™ Offshore practical exams for both motor and sail, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills. The course is taught over 40 hours with three exam papers

Although there are no pre-requisites for this course it is strongly advised you complete the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship Skills Online course before you start your Yachtmaster theory (offered in the Yachtmaster Package). The Yachtmaster Offshore Shore based course is a natural progression from the RYA Dayskipper Shore based course.

Positioning, The Magnetic Compass, Tides, Tidal Streams, Buoyage, Lights, Pilotage, GPS and Chart Plotters, Echo Sounders, Logs, Deck Log, Meteorology, Rule of the Road, Safety at Sea, Navigation in Restricted Visibility, Passage Planning, Marine Environment.

The qualification will be valid for life. After the course you will have a solid understadning of Colregs, chart plotting, postion fixing, tidal calculations, weather, pilotage, passage planning and safe navigation practices
