RYA Yachtmaster Offshore/Coastal complete training package POWER

Course Description

The Package includes your Shore based Theory followed by Practical preparation. You will also be signed up for the RYA online essential navigation and seamanship skills course to complete before your training starts, RYA VHF/SRC Online radio course (a pre-requisite for the Yachtmaster exam) and the RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities course needed to commercially endorse your Yachtmaster.

YACHTMASTER COASTAL

  • Practical Seatime (of which at least 50% is logged in tidal waters)
  • 30 days motor cruising (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)
  • 800 miles logged (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)
  • 12 night hours (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)
  • 2 days as skipper (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)


You will also need: 

  • Valid First Aid certificate 
  • SRC or VHF (or higher level GMDSS) 
  • RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased (theory) (Please note if you go for our Yachtmaster package option the VHF and Theory is included)

For commercial endorsement STCW, PPR and ENG 1 is also required.


YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE 

  • Practical Seatime (of which at least 50% is logged in tidal waters)
  • 50 days motor cruising (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)
  • 2,500 miles logged (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)
  • Qualifying Passages (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7m and 24m)
  • 5 passages of 60 miles or more, (2 of those passage as skipper, 2 of those passages being overnight)


You will also need: 

  • Valid First Aid certificate 
  • SRC or VHF (or higher level GMDSS) 
  • RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased (theory) (Please note if you go for our Yachtmaster package option the VHF and Theory is included)

For commercial endorsement STCW, PPR and ENG 1 is also required.

All these modules combined and successful completion of your exam qualifies candidates to captain vessels up to 24 metre by day or night up to 150 miles from a safe haven. If STCW Commercial endorsement is added to the Yachtmaster Offshore this can be used as Master of Yachts up to 200gt on commercially registered yachts. Qualifying passages and Seatime should have been logged in the ten years preceding the exam, Seatime that is more than ten years old does not qualify. All qualifying sea time and passages must be gained on vessels appropriate to the exam to be taken.

RYA ESSENTIAL NAVIGATION & SEAMANSHIP COURSE

This course acts as a great refresher for more experienced crew before the in-depth course.

VHF

The RYA Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio.

This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.

A VHF radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. Unnecessary transmissions could block out a Mayday distress call.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) is a compulsory online course for new and re validating applicants for RYA Commercial Endorsement to support a skipper’s Certificate of Competence. You do the course in your own time and can start as soon as you are registered.

All new applicants applying for Commercial Endorsement holding one of the certificates below are required to complete the online PPR course.

  • Commercial environment – how you fit into the professional maritime world.
  • People – the importance of correct manning, keeping your skills up to date and the safe management of commercial vessels.
  • Vessel – the compulsory carriage and maintenance of safety equipment and how to create and implement risk control and operating procedures.
  • Purpose – making sure your vessel is suitable and legal for the work you are carrying out, your obligations in protecting the environment, appropriate planning and situational awareness.

Following the modules, there is a mock assessment so you can check you are ready before moving on to the final graded online assessment.

YACHTMASTER PRACTICAL COURSE, (power)

The preparation part of the week is intended to act as a refresher on pilotage, boat handling, safety, skippering and passage planning. In particular, skills like blind navigation, electronic navigation (radar and GPS), night pilotage and MOB procedure are considered. During the exam, candidates will be set tasks to demonstrate their ability as a Yachtmaster and are asked questions on any part of the syllabus for all practical and shorebased courses up to Yachtmaster level.

After succesful completion of your exam you will be rewarded with either Yachtmaster coastal or offshore COC. Which will be valid for 5 years as long as a medical and FA are kept up to date.
