The need for yacht crew is always increasing, this is a highly qualified field offering many opportunities.
Working on a superyacht is a very fulfilling job with a potential long-term career with expense-free living.
And now you say where do I sign UP? There are some mandatory crew training courses to undertake before starting onboard.
How to get started in the yachting industry. Having qualifications on your CV shows dedication to becoming a part of the industry and a willingness to improve yourself and learn!
Amongst the many qualifications you can have on your CV to make you more employable the STCW is the mandatory requirement,
STCW means ‘standards of training, certification and watchkeeping’. The STCW Basic safety training course is the legal minimum requirement for anyone looking for commercial work aboard vessels over 24 meters. It is a requirement to refresh the Sea Survival and Fire Fighting modules every 5 years.
As well as the STCW you will need to get an ENG1 medical from a qualified doctor.
ENG1 Medical (or other STCW approved seafarers medical certificate) is a mandatory certificate needed to work on any commercial vessel. It declares that you are medically fit and free from any conditions that might impair you from performing regular duties onboard. You can find a list of doctors who can do the medical exam in Antibes here
Other crew-training certifications are highly recommended and will allow you to stand out of the competition.
